On Thursday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred in Peoria where an 8-year-old boy was fatally struck by a vehicle while exiting it.

According to authorities, a 8 year old boy from Peoria, passed away on Thursday after being struck by a vehicle while exiting it. The incident occurred in the northwest part of the valley in the Vistancia community of Peoria.

According to the Peoria Police Department, authorities were called to an accident at approximately 3:15 p.m., near Vistancia Boulevard and El Mirage Road. Upon arrival police discovered that the child had sustained serious injuries.

Initial reports indicate that the child, who remains unidentified, exited the moving vehicle and was subsequently hit by it as it traveled along the road.

The child was transported to a hospital where he passed away.

The victim attended Vistancia Elementary School as a second grade student.

According to authorities, while speed was eliminated as a factor, they are still looking into impairment as a potential cause.

There were no arrests recorded.
