New Paid Membership Program Launched By Target To Compete With Amazon

In an effort to boost sales, Target is adopting a strategy similar to Amazon’s by introducing a new paid membership program that includes complimentary same-day delivery.

Target, a retail company based in Minnesota, declared on Tuesday that it will be increasing its existing Target Circle loyalty program by introducing three additional membership choices beginning next month. This announcement coincided with Target’s report of its first decrease in sales in over seven years.

On April 7, a new program will be introduced that allows customers to select from three levels of membership: Target Circle, Target Circle Card, and Target Circle 360.

Target Circle

Target has reported that since its launch in 2019, more than 100 million individuals have enrolled in its complimentary Target Circle loyalty program to receive exclusive offers, discounts, and additional benefits. The updated version will maintain the same name and advantages as before, but rather than customers having to manually search for or add specific offers, the discounts will now be automatically applied during checkout. Furthermore, members will earn a 1% reward on their purchases that can be used towards future in-store transactions.

Circle Target Card

The Target RedCard, now known as the Target Circle Card, remains free and will provide members with benefits such as free two-day shipping, an extended return window of 30 days, and a 5% discount on all purchases. Additionally, it includes a reduced pricing option for Target’s paid membership as mentioned below.

Target Circle 360

The latest paid option from Target is the Target Circle 360 membership. Similar to Target Circle Card holders, this program provides customers with free two-day delivery. However, it also grants access to free same-day delivery for orders over $35 and allows members to have their orders delivered to their own doorstep. From April 7 to May 18, new members can join at a discounted rate of $49 for the first year. After this promotional period, the cost will increase to $99 per year – although Target Circle Card holders can join at the discounted rate anytime.

According to Target, the focus on creating strong connections with customers has been a priority for Target since its beginning. The updated version of Target Circle is a reflection of this dedication. The redesigned Target Circle program is adaptable and will evolve alongside customers, providing more benefits and convenience regardless of their preferred shopping method. This personalized approach aims to make every visit feel special and tailored to each individual.
