A major mix up at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in mistakenly releasing the wrong inmate. Authorities are now working to find and re-arrest the prisoner.

The MCSO has issued an arrest warrant for Anthony Pena who allegedly assumed the identity of another inmate and was released around 2:30 a.m. Thursday. The major mistake was discovered six hours later.

Authorities say Pena had been originally booked on a warrant for failure to appear and drug charges. Those charges came with a $250 bond.

Sheriff’s officials say that an internal investigation will be conducted to uncover any negligence or policy violations that occurred during the process of how this was handled.
