Honda is issuing a recall for over 750,000 vehicles due to a defective sensor that may trigger the deployment of front passenger air bags during a collision, even when it is not intended.

The 2020 through 2022 model years of Honda Pilot, Accord, Civic sedan, HR-V and Odyssey models are included in the recall. The 2020 Fit and Civic Coupe are also covered, as well as the 2021 and 2022 Civic hatchback, Civic Type R, Insight, and CR-V, CR-V Hybrid, Passport, Ridgeline, and Accord Hybrid from 2020 to 2021.

The Acura luxury brand’s impacted models consist of the 2020 and 2022 MDX, the 2020-2022 RDX, and the 2020 and 2021 TLX.

According to recently published documents from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it has been discovered that the weight sensor in the front passenger seat may develop cracks and short circuits. This could potentially cause the air bag to remain activated, even when it should have been deactivated to protect children or small adults occupying the seat. This poses a significant risk of injury.

Beginning March 18, owners will receive notification that dealers will replace the seat sensors free of charge.

According to Honda’s documents, there have been 3,834 warranty claims related to the issue between June 30, 2020, and January 19, 2021, but there have been no reports of injuries or deaths.
