Harlem Globetrotters move team offices from Phoenix to Atlanta

The Harlem Globetrotters have moved on from Phoenix where the legendary basketball team had its corporate offices for more than two decades.

The Globetrotters opened the doors to their new corporate offices in Atlanta on March 14, with star players on hand for the christening.

Herschend Enterprises, which purchased the Globetrotters in October 2013, announced in July that the team’s corporate headquarters would relocate to Atlanta.

Herschend, a major theme park company, has its corporate offices in Atlanta. Its parks include Dollywood in Tennessee and Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo.

Previous owner Mannie Jackson, a former Globetrotters player, moved the team offices to Phoenix from Hollywood in 1995.

The move to Atlanta is expected to be completed by this summer.

“We are excited to officially open the doors to our new Atlanta office and announce a partnership with another great Atlanta-based company in Delta Air Lines,” said Harlem Globetrotters President Howard Smith.

The traveling Globetrotters, in their 90th year, perform in basketball arenas around the world. The team has been to 122 countries on six continents entertaining millions of fans, including children, adults, popes, kings, queens and presidents.

One of the team’s biggest stars, Scottsdale resident Meadowlark Lemon, died in December at 83.
