Female Suspect Taken Into Custody After Deadly Shooting in Southern Phoenix

On Wednesday, police arrested a female following an altercation in south Phoenix which resulted in the death of a male.

At approximately 4 p.m., police were dispatched to a shooting incident close to the intersection of 16th Street and Broadway Road, as reported by the Phoenix Police Department.

Upon their arrival, Martin Tapia, aged 55, was discovered on the ground, wounded from a gunshot.


Tapia was taken to a medical center where he eventually died.

Police were informed by those who had seen the incident that a female, identified as 36-year-old Rebecca Lopez, had hurried away from the area with a firearm in her possession.

Lopez was apprehended at a residence in the vicinity and detained.

The detectives gathered evidence, reviewed surveillance video, and talked with witnesses. As a result of this investigation, they determined that the reports from the witnesses were accurate.

Initial indications point to Tapia and Lopez having a dispute concerning the use of a truck.

Lopez was taken into Fourth Avenue Jail after being charged with second-degree murder, criminal trespass, burglary, and a violation of probation.
