Extremely Rare ‘Devil Comet’ Predicted To Approach The Earth

Get ready to experience an extraordinary event, as a huge comet called the “devil comet” is forecasted to appear in the night sky in the summertime, something that has not happened in 70 years.

This particular celestial body, known to the scientific world as Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, is only able to be seen with powerful telescopes at this time. However, astronomers have shared that it could be visible to the naked eye or with binoculars during April and June of 2024 as it completes its 71-year journey around the sun.

The comet known as 12P/Pons-Brooks acquired its name from two astronomers who first noticed it; Jean-Louis Pons was the one to find it in 1812, and William Robert Brooks saw it again in 1883. It has earned an informal moniker, the “devil comet,” because its jets of gas and dust appear to have faint resemblances to devil horns.

It is thought that Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks has a very large diameter, measuring approximately 10.5 miles in size. Its last fly-by of the Earth was in 1954. Even though it is large and has a threatening name, experts do not believe it is a danger to life on our planet.
