Cox offers upgraded Contour service, voice-activated remote

Cox Communications has announced the launch of its upgraded Contour video product and a new in-home mobile app.

New features include a voice-activated remote control, predictive-search capability and detailed title information for more than 35,000 On Demand choices.

“We are always looking for ways to expand and enhance our video experience for our customers,” said John Wolfe, Cox Southwest region manager.

“After extensive testing, we are confident that this new technology will take Contour to the next level,” he said. “Customers tell us the voice-activated remote control, and the use of graphics and additional program information are a few of their favorite new features.”

The Contour app allows a second-screen video experience with the ability to stream live TV channels and free On Demand choices.

The new DVR features allows customers to record six shows at once. It has 2 terabytes of storage that allow up to 300 hours of high-definition shows and 1,000 hours of standard-definition programs.

Cox’s new remote, with backlighting, allows voice control to change channels, find shows and get recommendations.

Cox announced that in most cases the new Contour system will be similarly priced as customers’ current Contour service. But it does require professional installation. Customers in Arizona can order the new Contour starting now.
