The Maricopa Police Department has verified that a vehicle recovered from a lake on Wednesday afternoon contained human remains.

A vehicle was retrieved by Maricopa police officers from a lake located close to the intersection of Smith Enke Road and Province Parkway. The Maricopa County Police Department, along with the Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office, is currently collaborating to determine the identity of the discovered remains.

According to officials, the body’s identification will likely take place next week, as the medical examiner’s office continues to handle the case. The investigation is still in progress.
