An investigation is underway after the Phoenix Police Department say the body of a man was found dead near the Rio Salado Landfill.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in south Phoenix on May 30 near 7th Avenue and Magnolia Street.

When officers arrived, they found a man lying on the ground just outside the entrance to the landfill. Police ruled the man deceased from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

The investigation area is at the back of a large property that hold many different businesses. The land is nearly one acre and is divided into several dirt lots. The land is used as rental space for individuals to run businesses, such as salvage or car parts, or even to store vehicles.

Detectives have not been able identify the victim and have not provided any details on the suspect.
