Two MCSO Deputies Reassigned After Altercation With Parents of Accused of Murder Suspect In Preston Lord Case

According to a spokesperson from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, two deputies were reassigned after allegedly escorting the parents of a suspect in the Preston Lord murder case out of a courthouse without proper authorization last week.

According to Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez’s statement to the media, a comprehensive evaluation revealed that the MCSO staff had carried out an unsanctioned family escort on March 7, 2024, utilizing a path that was previously used for notable or security-sensitive escorts.

Although their aim was to avoid any potential conflicts or disturbances at the courthouse, the two deputies did not seek guidance from their supervisors or coordinate with the court staff when they received a request to escort the family’s legal representative. It has been reported that both deputies have been reassigned from the Juvenile Court Center.

An investigation revealed that the Renners were escorted by deputies to a safe location and their Tesla was relocated to a nearby lot behind the court building following their child Talan Renner’s first court appearance.

Officials believe that the deputies’ behavior did not follow court security procedures and appeared to show favoritism.

Talan Renner, 17 is among a group of seven individuals who are facing charges for first-degree murder in the tragic passing of Lord. The victim was fatally beaten outside a Halloween celebration in Queen Creek on October 28, 2023, and succumbed to their injuries two days later in the hospital.

On Wednesday, Renner, along with five other accused, entered a plea of not guilty. The seventh suspect is anticipated to submit their plea on Thursday

His brother, Kyler Renner, 19, is facing accusations in two separate assault cases that occurred in 2022. Additionally, his father, Travis Renner, 50, was apprehended in January for purportedly having unlawful substances and items used for drug consumption.
