In Phoenix, a man was fatally struck by a train near downtown over the weekend. It is thought that he had been lying on the tracks when the incident occurred.

At around 7:30 Saturday morning, the Phoenix Police Department reported an incident at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Grant Street.

The locomotive engineer kept traveling, and it is uncertain if the engineer was aware that the individual had been struck.

Authorities have not released the identity of the victim.  An investigation into the accident is in progress.
