Time is Funning Out For Arizonans To Register Or Select Party For Presidential Preference Election

The deadline is approaching for Arizona residents to register or modify their party affiliation in order to participate in the state’s Presidential Preference Election next month.

The final day to register is on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The PPE, which is Arizona’s equivalent of a presidential primary, will take place on March 19.

The Presidential Preference Election is only relevant to registered Democrats and Republicans and is held separately from Arizona’s primary election scheduled at the end of July.

Individuals in Arizona who are registered as independents or with other political parties would need to change their party affiliation to either Republican or Democrat in order to participate in the selection of a presidential nominee. To do so, residents can visit ServiceArizona.com to register or update their party affiliation and other personal information.

On February 21, the County recorders will send out PPE ballots to both members of the Active Early Voting List and voters who have made a one-time request for an early ballot. This date also marks the beginning of in-person early voting.

According to a report, the Republican ballot for Arizona’s 2024 presidential preference election will feature nine names, while the Democratic ballot will have seven names. The list of candidates will also include those who have withdrawn from the race after meeting the qualifications to be included on the ballot.

The deadline for an eligible voter to request an early ballot for the PPE is March 8. To ensure that the early ballots reach county election officials by 7 p.m. on Election Day, which is when the polls close, March 12 is considered the last day to mail completed early ballots.
