The Moxy Charms Arizona Millennials

A few months ago Tempe, Arizona, welcomed a new hotel. The Moxy is a boutique hotel run by the popular Marriott International chain that promises offbeat charm for millennials.

Straight away, The Moxy’s hot pink neon sign lets guests know that this is a hip place to be. Inside, smooth concrete walls and wooden flooring offer a relaxed communal space filled with modern furniture and on trend lighting. Their Front Desk doubles up as a bar and the hotel feels like Google opened a campus in a Manhattan loft. This works, as The Moxy is right around the corner from Arizona State University, and I can see this hotel making a great first impression on potential students.

Visitors love The Moxy, as evidenced by the number of 5 star reviews the hotel has on TripAdvisor. The Moxy aims to be different and it’s not every hotel that lets you hang out in the lobby playing arcade games and drinking cocktails. The worst review I could find complained that there wasn’t an ironing board. How many millennials do you know that iron? We’re too busy designing the future!

The Moxy is currently running a Late Deal special with rooms from just $75 a night. The rooms are spacious and there is a whole host of cool freebies thrown in, from non-stop Wi-Fi and Chromecast-equipped TVs to use of the swimming pool and fitness centre. The hotel is close to the Sun Devil Stadium and would be a great place to relax before taking in a match or show.

The opening of this new hotel has the potential to bring business to Tempe, especially with The Moxy’s policy of linking up with local businesses to supply goods. For example, the bottled water is direct from Tempe. Local bands played the Grand Opening, the hotel coming to Tempe was an extra coup for Arizona, as The Moxy here is the first in the US and only the second in the world. The brand will continue to roll out across the US, and has recently opened in New Orleans, with more hotels coming to New York and Seattle. In the meantime, Tempe residents and visitors alike can enjoy The Moxy’s fun loving ethos and cool communal atmosphere.
