Two metro Phoenix restaurants were named in Open Table’s list of the 100 Hottest Restaurants in America for 2016.

Culinary Dropout in Tempe and SumoMaya Mexican Asian Kitchen in Scottsdale made the list from Open Table, a leading provider of online restaurant reservations.

SumoMaya is at 6560 N. Scottsdale Road, northwest of Scottsdale Road and Lincoln Drive. 

Culinary Dropout in Tempe is at 149 S. Farmer Ave. 

Culinary Dropout also has a Phoenix restaurant at 5632 N. Seventh St. and one in Scottsdale at 7135 E. Camelback Road.

The 100 Hottest Restaurant awards reflect the combined opinions of 5 million restaurant reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners for more than 20,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

California had 25 winning restaurants, followed by New York with 15, and Florida and Illinois with seven each.

The winning restaurants are highly regarded for their lively ambience, and many feature vibrant bar and lounge scenes with an after-hours feel. 

The list of hot restaurants was generated from 5 million restaurant reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners over the past year. All restaurants with a minimum “overall” score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Qualifying restaurants were then sorted according to a score calculated from each restaurant’s average rating in the “hot spot” category.
