State Route 87 On-Ramp To Closed Due To Construction on I-10

Due to the widening of Interstate 10 north of Picacho Peak, the on-ramp at State Route 87 has closed for seven weeks.

The Arizona Department of Transportation plans to open the on-ramp in mid-June, and it will connect the new eastbound lanes. The new lanes on I-10 will extend the interstate to a six-lane freeway from milepost 209 to 213.

To avoid any delays, motorists can access eastbound I-10 by getting on westbound I-10 to Sunshine Boulevard. ADOT crews will also be constructing a 10-mile dust detection zone from Eloy to Picacho Peak. In addition to the on-ramp and dust detection zone, crews are going to construct foundations for electronic message boards and 10 miles of fiber optic cable to connect other equipment.

The majority of the work will be completed by this fall, and the additional lanes from Casa Grande to Tucson are expected to be finished by late summer.
