Police Arrest Man For Stealing $100K In Fragrances At Valley Stores

Police have arrested and charged aa man with stealing over $100,000 of perfumes from multiple fragrance stores in Phoenix, Chandler Gilbert, and Queen Creek.

Authorities report that the thefts began in June 2022 when 37-year-old Jose Luis Acosta entered an Ulta Beauty store near Baseline and Copper roads. He allegedly filled up a pillowcase of $2,959 worth of fragrances and left the store without purchasing the merchandise.

Court documents say from Aug. 2022 – May 30, 2023, Acosta visited more than 10 Ulta Beauty stores throughout the east Valley, where he also shoved perfumes into pillowcases and duffle bags before running from the stores. During his crime spree he would be in and out of the stores within a minute.  Police believe the thefts totaled $39,740.98.


Police believe he may be connected to other similar retail thefts. Ulta Beauty reported they believe Acosta is responsible for over $100,000 in stolen fragrances from their stores.

On Monday, Acosta was arrested and booked into jail on ten counts of retail theft. He has a previous arrest record for theft, shoplifting, discharging a firearm, and assault.
