Phoenix Vehicle-Pedestrian Collision Ends With Driver Charged In Aggravated DUI

On Sunday night, a man was arrested after a fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision in west Phoenix. Authorities believe the driver was under the influence was arrested.

Officers were called to a scene near 75th Avenue and Thomas Road around 10 p.m. When Phoenix Police arrived, they found Larry Wheet, 56 with serious injuries. Wheet reportedly was crossing Thomas Road midblock when he was hit by vehicle driving eastbound. The man driving the car was 40-year-old James Carter.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Carter remained at the scene, had four additional people in his vehicle, which included two young children.

Carter was booked into jail on one count of aggravated DUI.
