Phoenix Police Arrest Person of Interest in Deadly Vehicle-Pedestrian Collision

Early Wednesday in Phoenix, near the campus of Grand Canyon University, a man was killed in a hit and run. After a full investigation, police believe they have apprehended the driver in connection with a deadly crash.

The Phoenix Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to a scene of a crash involving a pedestrian at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Camelback Road and 36th Avenue.


When the officers arrived to the scene, they found Habimana Ciza, 29,, had life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to the wounds he had sustained in the accident.

At the time of the accident, the police reported that the person behind the wheel of the car had fled the scene, leaving the victim in the road.

Investigators were able to track down and locate the driver responsible as 54-year-old Graciela Gracia-Marquez.

Gracia-Marquez was located and taken into police custody and charged with fleeing the site of a deadly crash.
