Parent, Student Arrested During Fight At Sunnyslope High School

A valley parent and a student were arrested after a fight at Sunnyslope High School.

On Tuesday, September 12, around 2:30 p.m. the Sunnyslope High School resource officer called for backup as a fight on campus had escalated. Responding officers reported that a parent, 35-year-old Brittany Richards was at the school because of a fight between her child and other students. Reports state that Richards confronted and yelled at and threatened several students.

Officers attempted to detain her, however, Richards began screaming and pulled her arms away from officers who were attempting to handcuff her. It took three officers to put Richards in handcuffs.


Richards was arrested and is accused of interfering with an educational institution and resisting arrest.

One student was also taken into custody and booked into a juvenile detention center. The student is accused of assault and aggravated assault on a police officer.

There were no serious injuries as a result of the fight.
