Nonprofit Diner Opens in Scottsdale

Inspired by her friend Joy Seitz-Butts and her cancer battle, Jennifer Caraway has opened The Joy Bus Diner; a completely nonprofit restaurant.  For five years, Caraway has been delivering free meals to patients with all sorts of illnesses. In total she, along with two dozen volunteers, have delivered nearly 2,500 meals from her food truck.  She hopes to quadruple that number with the restaurant’s recent opening.

All the profits from Joy Bus Diner go directly to The Joy Bus Foundation.

The Joy Bus Diner includes a wide variety of both breakfast and lunch items including chicken and waffles priced at $10, Biscuits and gravy for $6, eggs benedict with steak and chili for $12 and a “Honkin Huge” burrito filled with chicken, beans, onion, tomato, onion, chili, cheese, and avocado for $8.

In addition to serving food, The Joy Bus volunteers spend their time comforting patients and consulting with doctors to accommodate their dietary necessities. Caraway hopes that once patients recovers they will come to the restaurant and continue to eat the food.

The Joy Bus Diner is open from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Sundays and located at E Shea Blvd, Suite C-1. For more information about the restaurant or cause visit thejoybus.org.
