PetSmart named Arizona’s largest private company by Forbes

Arizona has revealed its largest private company and it is PetSmart! Makes sense considering all of the quality products it offers for pets.

PetSmart’s current position was announced through the latest Forbes ranking. The establishment was placed at position 48 as the largest U.S privately owned company. However, PetSmart wasn’t the only company that made the list. Other Arizona establishments such as Services Group of America, Shamrock Foods, and Discount Tire also secured rankings by Forbes. A total of 223 companies were entered in the list. In order to be entered a company must have a revenue of at least $2 billion.

The top spot was taken by Minneapolis for Cargill. This made Cargill’s 30th time it has earned the top position after acquiring revenue that is said to be approximately $120 billion. The second position was taken by Koch Industries with revenue of $100 billion. The rest of the positions were taken up by Albertsons, Dell, and PricewaterhouseCoopers to make the top five.


PetSmart became a private company after being purchased by London-based investment firm named BC Partners. The company was purchased for $8.7 billion and according to Forbes’ estimates it had revenue of $7 billion.

PetSmart isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Recently, it signed a long-term lease for a second location in Springfield. The new location is predicted to open sometime in October. The new store will be 18,000 square foot, and is under construction at 2640 S. Campbell Ave. The new store is likely to employ 20 to full as well as part-time workers. It will likely have a positive impact on the company’s revenue in the future.

As for the rest of the Arizona based private companies that made the list, a $4.2 billion revenue was approximated for Discount Tires and helped place it at position 99. The Services Group of America came in at position 121 with $3.5 billion. Shamrock Foods got the 166th position with revenue of $2.8 billion.
