New Amazon Facilities Coming to Tucson

Steve Cohen and Russ Hall from Cushman & Wakefield / Picor represented Scannell Properties of Indianapolis, IN in the purchase of 9.57 acres for a new Amazon distribution center that will be built in Tucson. The property was purchased for $1.5 million, and it was purchased in two transactions. Both transactions were completed in November 2018.

The land is located at the corner of Silverlake Road and I-10, west of downtown Tucson. Scanell properties has begun working on the 59,000 square foot facility. The warehouse will be used for sorting packages from larger facilities, transferring packages to delivery vehicles, storing vehicles, and washing and fueling vehicles.

In 2018, Amazon purchased land on S Kolb Road in Tucson for $11.6 million. The building on S Kolb Road is currently under construction. The facility is 857,388-square-feet of warehouse storage and office facilities. It also has three levels of mezzanines, which totals 1,196,161-square-feet, and it has additional mezzanine of 265,049-square-feet. When it’s completed, the facility will have 63 loading docks, 400 transport trailer parking spaces, and 2,500 standard parking spaces.

The center will bring 1,500 full-time associates to the area, and there is no estimation on the amount of job the new distribution center will bring. “It was a quick assemblage and escrow,” said Steve Cohen. “As both properties were already on the market for sale.

With two Amazon centers here by the end of this year, Tucson is becoming the logistics center of the Southwest.”
