Mesa Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Suspect in Pet Store Murder Case

On Saturday evening, a 21-year-old male was taken into custody by Mesa police for fatally shooting a 32-year-old male behind a pet store in Phoenix.

At approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday, the police were alerted to a potential shooting behind Pratt’s Pets store, located on Alma School Road north of Southern Avenue. The first person to call reported that an employee of the store may have been involved.

When police arrived, they discovered the 32 victim with severe injuries. The officers immediately initiated life-saving procedures and were later assisted by the fire personnel. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the man died.

Inside the store, the police found and apprehended 21-year-old Jakob Urias, the suspected employee involved in the incident.

During their investigation, detectives discovered that Urias was working outside when he was approached by two female employees who asked the 32-year-old to leave due to trespassing. Despite their request, the man refused to leave and the two women went back inside the store to call the police. It was during this phone call that the shooting took place.

During an interview with detectives, Urias acknowledged that he had shot the man. As a result, he was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
