A married couple was tragically shot and killed inside their Peoria on Saturday morning.

Police responded to a 911 call from a home near 79th Avenue and Mescal Street. The wife was able to make the call at 4 a.m., saying she had been shot. When police arrived, they found the husband, 52-year-old Walter Mitchell, dead. Susie Ephrem, 42, was taken to a nearby hospital but later died from her injuries.

A family member in the home at the time of the shooting was unharmed. It is believed that an intruder forced entry into the house. Detectives do not think this was a random act of violence. Additional information has not yet been released. Details on the suspect were not provided. An investigation is still underway.

Police are still searching for a suspect and have made no arrests. The couple had moved into the home two months prior.
