Husband Indicted for Murder in Goodyear Lake Crash

Anthony Joseph Maiorana

On Tuesday, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced the indictment of Anthony Joseph Maiorana for one count of second-degree murder, a Class One Felony for the death of this wife, Megan Maiorana.

On March 22nd , Goodyear Police officers responded to a call of a vehicle that had crashed into a lake and was rapidly sinking. Upon arriving, the defendant was outside of the vehicle, screaming that his wife was trapped inside. Tragically, despite multiple rescue attempts by officers and bystanders, they were unsuccessful in getting the defendant’s wife out of the vehicle.

Maiorana, 35, shared with officers that they were driving back from a baseball game when the crash occurred. His blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. According to witnesses, prior to the crash, they heard a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed followed by screaming.

“I commend the brave citizens and officers in this situation who attempted to save this victim’s life,” said County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “We are pursuing this charge as a result of the husband’s reckless behavior.”

Trial is set for September of this year.
