Global Credit Union Arena To Be The New Name for GCU Arena Following Rights Partnership

Grand Canyon University and Global Credit Union have reached an agreement to rename the University’s basketball facility to Global Credit Union Arena.

When the renaming becomes official, the home of the Lopes’ men’s basketball team will still likely be called GCU Arena, as the acronym is the same.

Geoff Lundfelt, President and CEO of Global Credit Union, expressed his happiness in partnering with Grand Canyon University. He mentioned how both institutions have a lot in common, such as being 75 years old, and a dedication towards the betterment of their respective communities and have a mission to assist people in any way they can.

About a decade ago, the GCU men’s basketball squad advanced to Division I status and, in the last three seasons under Bryce Drew as head coach, they achieved a spot in the NCAA Tournament twice. In both cases, the Lopes were defeated in the first round by higher-seeded teams, Iowa and Gonzaga, by just a few points.

Grand Canyon University President Brian Mueller stated that Global Credit Union has rapidly been developing and has extended their presence in the Valley. He said GCU is proud to welcome them into the GCU family, as it is one of the fastest-growing universities in the nation.
