Flagstaff Shelter Service Purchases Motel To Help Homeless

A Flagstaff homeless shelter purchased a second motel for emergency homeless housing.

Flagstaff Shelter Services recently announced they had acquired the Motel 6 on East Lucky Lane for $9 million. The hotel has 103 rooms and once renovations are finalized the shelter will be able to provide free meals, medical care, and resources to those who have a need to find permanent housing.

The project will be called The Lantern. The Arizona Department of Housing assisted with the funding to purchase the building through the American Rescue Plan Act.

Last year, the shelter acquired the Howard Johnson Motel along Route 66 and turned it into emergency housing. The site includes 58 rooms and is expected to serve more than 1,000 people annually with emergency shelter in addition to the comprehensive services clients of congregate shelter receive.

The Lantern should be operating by December 2023.
