Charge Filed Against Man Alleged to Have Sent Threatening Message to Maricopa County Supervisor

Attorney General Kris Mayes today announced the charging of Ryan Stuart Hadland, age 44, of Phoenix, with a misdemeanor violation: Use of an Electronic Communication to Terrify, Intimidate, Threaten or Harass.

The charge in Maricopa County Superior Court, alleges that on November 12, 2022, Hadland sent a threatening email to Maricopa County Supervisor Bill Gates. Use of an Electronic Communication to Terrify, Intimidate, Threaten, or Harass is a Class 1 misdemeanor, and Hadland faces up to six months in jail and a $2,500.00 fine. This case has been assigned to Pima County Superior Court Judge Scott McDonald, who will handle the case in Maricopa County.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office conducted this investigation. Assistant Attorney General Todd Lawson is prosecuting this case. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
