The Arizona Supreme Court is moving forward with the execution of death row inmate Murray Hooper.

On Wednesday, the court granted the motion for a warrant of execution.

According to the warrant signed by four justices, Hooper, 76, is scheduled to die by lethal injection or gas on Nov. 16.

This scheduled execution will be the third execution sentence carried out this year after Arizona recently resumed carrying out execution sentences.

Hooper and two co-defendants were all sentenced to death for the New Year’s Eve 1980 murders of a Phoenix man and his mother-in-law during a home robbery. The other two men sentenced have since died in prison while they were awaiting their sentences.

In July, when Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced his intentions to seek the death warrant, Brnovich called death “the appropriate response … for the victims, their families and our communities.”

Prior to the state resuming executions in the state of Arizona, state has not executed an inmate in nearly eight years. Clarence Dixon was executed by lethal injection in May for the murder of a 21-year-old Arizona State University student in 1978. Frank Atwood was executed in June for the 1984 killing of an 8-year-old Tucson girl.

Currently there are 111 inmates on Arizona’s death row. Of the inmates, 22 have exhausted their appeals.
