170-unit apartment plan submitted for South Scottsdale Road

A redevelopment project has been proposed that would bring a four-story apartment building and retail shops to South Scottsdale Road.

Plans submitted to Scottsdale on March 7 call for 170 apartments with underground parking and 6,000 square feet of retail on a 2.8-acre site southwest of Oak Street and Scottsdale Road.

Synectic Design Inc. of Tempe turned in the request to modify the commercial zoning to allow a mixed-use project with a height restriction of up to 50 feet. The developer was unnamed in the proposal.

Synectic said the proposed project “demonstrates how an underutilized site can be developed to benefit revitalization of a community by providing well-designed, environmentally sensitive market-priced housing.”

The property, which includes the former Polyesters nightclub building, is adjacent to the Antique Trove, Rock Church of God and former Frasher’s Steakhouse.

It is the latest proposal for redevelopment along Scottsdale Road.

SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center is building a new phase of offices and another apartment project in under development north of Thomas Road.
