On April 9, Maricopa County celebrated another milestone in its years-long investment in regional housing solutions with the groundbreaking of a new affordable housing project in Wickenburg. Casa Del Sol will bring 16 affordable single-family homes to serve a growing need in the small town, in the northwest corner of the county.

“We are seeing more families get priced out of the housing market and fall into homelessness and that is just unacceptable,” said Supervisor Clint Hickman, District 4. “Maricopa County is proud to partner with the Town of Wickenburg to support households in need by building affordable single-family homes and offering down payment assistance.”

Maricopa County contributed more than $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars for the project, including $833,647 for infrastructure and construction costs, and more than $1.2 million toward down payment assistance for eligible families.

The development will offer three floor plans. The smallest plan will feature 1,236 square feet with three bedrooms, two baths, and a one-car garage. The 1,389 square foot option includes three bedrooms, a bonus space, two baths and a one-car garage. The largest plan is 1,607 square feet and features five bedrooms, two baths, and a two-car garage.

The homes will be sold to households that earn at or below 120 percent of the Area Median Income, which is no more than $112,200 per year for a family of four. Homebuyers interested in purchasing the homes will also receive housing counseling and homebuyer education classes.
