Beginning in the morning of Friday and carrying through the night into Saturday, the National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a flood watch for Phoenix and some regions of Southwest Arizona due to an incoming bout of rain.

From Friday at 6 a.m. until Saturday at 6 a.m., a flood watch has been issued for an area that extends from the western border of the state to Globe.

A record-breaking amount of rain is forecast for Phoenix, surpassing the 0.96″ mark set in 1965. It is anticipated that south-central Arizona may experience up to 1.50″ of rainfall, with potential for as much as 2″ in regions north of the Valley.

People planning to be out and about on Friday and into Saturday should make sure to bring an umbrella and warm clothes in anticipation drop in temperature. Please proceed with caution on the valley roadways. Take heed that roads, streams, and dry riverbeds will likely be inundated during the storm. Avoid driving over flooded roads and low water crossings. The major rain is expected to occur on Friday.
