Vietnam Veterans Memorial Replica Is Coming To Peoria

The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial is coming to Pleasant Harbor, at Lake Pleasant, April 11 to 14.

This Traveling Memorial stands as a reminder of the great sacrifices made during the Vietnam War. It was made for the purpose of helping heal and rekindle friendships and to allow people the opportunity for those to pay respect in their home town who otherwise may not be able to make the trip to Washington.

The Wall That Heals is a 3/5 scale of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC, it stands six feet tall at the center and covers almost 300 feet from end to end.

Like the original Memorial, The Wall That Heals is erected in a chevron shape and visitors can do name rubbings of individual service members’ names on The Wall. The replica is constructed of Avonite, a synthetic granite, and its 140 numbered panels are supported by an aluminum frame.

As on The Wall in D.C., the names on The Wall That Heals are listed by day of casualty. Beginning at the center/apex, the names start on the East Wall (right-hand side) work their way out to the end of that wing, pick up again at the far end of the West Wall (left-hand side) and work their way back into the center/apex, joining the beginning and end of the conflict at the center.

The exhibit features a mobile Education Center and is free to visit the wall 24 hours a day.
