Valley Blood Donors Needed To Replenish Supply After Holidays

On January 7, the Tempe Center for the Arts will be the site of the Saving Arizona Blood Drive, organized by Vitalant. This event will take place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Once they make their donation, individuals will be presented with a coupon for a 10-inch cheese pizza from Streets of New York and a voucher for one day’s access to the 2024 WM Phoenix Open.

Hospitals require blood of all types as soon as possible, but especially require Type-O, which is regularly used as a temporary alternative in medical crises.

Vitalant issued an announcement on Wednesday revealing that donations of Type-O blood are currently at a “critically low” level.

Why is the Saving Arizona Blood Drive such an important cause?

Vitalant report that blood transfusions are major factor in helping save many people’s lives.

Vitalant has noted that during the holiday season, Arizona tends to experience a decrease in its blood supply. Despite the fact that January typically requires the most transfusions, the span from Christmas to New Year’s Day is when the lowest amount of donations is seen each year.

Due to the hustle and bustle of the holiday season coupled with congestion on the roads and highways, Vitalant joined forces with local businesses to encourage more donations.

In addition, donors at the blood drive have an opportunity to be one of 24 individuals to win a $500 gift card.
