A new golf experience is coming to Tempe. Grass Clippings at Rolling Hills in Tempe, is nearly ready to offer night play as LED lighting is being installed around the property.
The history of Rolling Hills Golf Course dates back to the early 1960s when renowned golf course architect, William F. Bell, was commissioned to design a course that would not only test the skills of golfers but also celebrate the natural beauty of the Arizona landscape. Bell’s vision came to life as Rolling Hills was meticulously crafted to seamlessly blend with the surrounding terrain. The course’s design incorporates the natural contours of the land, creating a harmonious balance between challenge and aesthetics. Each hole presents its own unique set of challenges, ensuring that golfers of all skill levels are captivated by the strategy required to conquer the course.
Rolling Hills Golf Course has a long history in the valley and has hosted everything from weekend golfers to tournament play and has now taken on a second life.
The refurbished golf course, located near Mill Avenue and Van Buren Street, reopened in November after a four-month renovation project. The course has been improved with a redesigned ninth hole, new tee boxes, an irrigation system, and a 15,000-square foot practice putting green.
At night, golfers can play an executive-length course or a par-3 course, and the LED lighting will illuminate the course offering a unique way to golf.
The venue is also improved their food and beverage offerings by adding a hilltop bar, a patio bar, a renovated clubhouse, an activity lawn, a video display, and an entertainment site, with completion expected in fall 2024.
Grass Clippings has a 30-year partnership with the City of Tempe to manage the 93-acre golf course, and tee times can be made online with play available nightly until midnight starting in December.
