Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Man After Safe Return of 13-Year-Old Chandler Girl

Shawn Paul Riherd

A 13-year-old girl who had been missing for over a week was discovered unharmed and reunited with her family on Sunday afternoon.

On April 12, at approximately 6 p.m., Olivia Gerits departed her residence near the intersection of South Gilbert Road and East Hunt Highway. Her destination was a sleepover at a friend’s house. However, she never arrived at her friend’s home and did not return the following day as planned.

Her phone was later discovered abandoned on a bus in Tempe on April 14.

During the investigation, detectives discovered that she had been talking to 21-year-old Shawn Paul Riherd online. Officers believed the teen was with Riherd when she went missing.

According to the Chandler police, Riherd has been taken into custody for interrogation in the teen’s disappearance. Police confirm charges are expected to be filed for Riherd. The investigation is ongoing.
