Phoenix Crash Involving Light Rail Train Leaves 1 Woman Dead, 1 Injured

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, a light rail train collided with a car in Phoenix, resulting in the death of one woman and leaving another in critical condition.

According to a statement, Sandra Barbre, a 76-year-old female, was driving the car at the time of the collision with the train.

Barbre passed away at the accident site due to the severity of the injuries.


The unidentified passenger, a female, was transported to the hospital in a serious state. Police say she is still undergoing treatment.. Her identity has not been disclosed.

At the time of the accident, the train was heading west near the intersection of 21st Street and Washington Street and had a green light when the accident occurred.

According to the investigation, Barbre’s car was hit by a train while traveling in a southbound direction. It is uncertain whether the car was turning from Washington Street (a one-way street) or exiting from southbound Interstate 10.

The investigation is still ongoing and impairment was not mentioned as a contributing factor.
