$4,097,700 will be invested in Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs law led by Senator Kyrsten Sinema and shaped by Senator Mark Kelly.
The investment, awarded through the Airport Infrastructure Grant program in Sinema and Kelly’s infrastructure law, will modernize the existing terminal building to accommodate the growing number of passengers who fly through Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
“Our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will enable Mesa Gateway Airport to make much needed investments that expand capacity to meet the growing demand for air travel in Arizona and across the country,” said Senator Kelly.
“Arizona continues to benefit from our bipartisan infrastructure law. Today’s investment will fuel jobs and improve the passenger experience at Mesa Gateway Airport,” said Sinema, co-author and lead negotiator of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs law.
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs law includes a historic $25 billion in additional investments for aviation infrastructure. The bipartisan law provides $15 billion in priority projects at every airport in the United States, $5 billion in competitive grants for terminal development and other landslide projects, and $5 billion in grants for strengthening Air Traffic Control towers and infrastructure.
In the year since Sinema and Kelly’s bipartisan bill was signed into law, over $69 million has gone to repairs and upgrades at all Arizona airports.
Sinema led bipartisan Senate negotiations with Republican Senator Rob Portman of Ohio that included Senator Kelly and senators from both parties.
The bipartisan infrastructure law was supported by groups including The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Business Roundtable, The National Association of Manufacturers, The AFL-CIO, The National Retail Federation, The Bipartisan Policy Center, North America’s Building Trades Unions, the Outdoor Industry Association, The American Hotel and Lodging Association, The National Education Association, as well as hundreds of mayors across all 50 states.
