New tango academy opens in Phoenix

Located in Phoenix, Tango Academy Arizona is a studio founded by Jorge Luis Gonzalez-Becerra, an instructor who has taught Argentine tango for twenty years in southern California. Born and raised in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina (where tango is widely believed to have originated), Gonzalez-Becerra draws inspiration from a tango legacy passed onto him by his family.  From a very early age, the tango maestro was educated and trained in the performing arts.

Classes of all levels are offered, taught exclusively by Argentine teachers whose aim is to exhibit the art and passion of authentic Argentine tango. These extensive lessons for beginner, intermediate and advanced dancers are offered on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights, respectively. Walk-ins are welcome at $25 per class with multi-class rates ranging from $100-$195 depending on the level and number of classes.

The April 22 grand opening of the studio will be celebrated with a one-hour tango class followed by a milonga, a traditional social dance party. The class is for all levels and runs from 9:00 pm – 10:00 pm. The milonga immediately follows the class and ends at 2:00 am. Admission is $20 with hors d’oeuvres and beverages included. No partner is necessary and parking is free at the studio located at 13637 N. Tatum Blvd # 8, Phoenix AZ 85032.

The Tango Academy Arizona provides the opportunity to experience the essence of authentic Argentine tango at the hands of skilled instructors. The Saturday night milonga could be a great introduction to the tango and the culture it pervades.
