Mother Arrested After 1-Year-Old Phoenix Boy Dies From Possible Overdose

According to officials, the body of a 1-year-old child was discovered inside an apartment in Phoenix on Monday.

Police officers were called to the scene of an injured person near 32nd Place and Van Buren Street at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, they found an unresponsive toddler, who was later identified as Jody Jackson, inside the apartment.

According to authorities, emergency services administered medical assistance, however, Jackson passed away at the location. Another child who resided in the apartment was unharmed.


Natalie Tate, the mother of the boy, was arrested and sent to Maricopa County Jail where she faces charges of negligent homicide and child abuse. The 37-year-old confessed to consuming drugs the previous night and suspects that her son may have found and ingested a pill from her bottle.

The case is still under investigation and detectives await the results of the post-mortem examination.
