McDonald’s Announces Plans To Remove Self-Serve Drink Fountains From Dining Rooms

McDonald’s customers will soon not be able to make or refill their own drink at any of the chain restaurants nationwide.

McDonald’s USA, announced that they will be phasing out soda fountains in its U.S. dining rooms between now and 2032.

Post COVID, dining inside restaurants have becomes less popular. The decision was made as McDonald’s puts their focus on delivery and carryout services due to dining inside restaurants becoming less popular.

“McDonald’s will be transitioning away from self-serve beverage stations in dining rooms across the U.S. by 2032,” the company said. “The change is intended to create a consistent experience for both customers and crew across all ordering points, whether that’s McDelivery, the app, kiosk, drive-thru or in-restaurant.”

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said in July McDonald’s will test new concepts, such as a takeout-only location in Texas that began opening last year.

The slow transition away from beverage stations in dining rooms across the country has already begun and will be completed by 2032. Customers will be required to ask for refills at the counter.
