March 5-8 Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory

Improvement projects will require closures or other restrictions on Phoenix-area freeways this weekend (March 5-8), according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Freeways to be closed include westbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) between Seventh Street and 27th Avenue in north Phoenix. Drivers should allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the following weekend freeway restrictions are in place:

Westbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed between Seventh Street and 27th Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (March 8) for widening project. Northbound SR 51 ramp to westbound Loop 101 closed. Westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Cave Creek Road closed. DETOUR: Expect heavy traffic, delays and consider alternate routes. Westbound Loop 101 traffic exiting at Seventh Street can travel north to westbound Deer Valley Road and use southbound 19th Avenue to the westbound Beardsley frontage road to travel beyond closure. Alternate routes include exiting westbound Loop 101 ahead of the closure and using westbound Bell Road, Union Hills Drive or Deer Valley Road to reach I-17 or 27th/35th avenues (to access Loop 101). Northbound SR 51 traffic can exit to northbound Black Mountain Boulevard and use westbound Deer Valley Road.

Southbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) narrowed to one lane overnight in areas between Thunderbird Road and Interstate 10 in the West Valley from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday nights (March 7-10) for pavement maintenance (crack sealing). Be prepared for closures of southbound Loop 101 on- or off-ramps at times. ADOT is working to limit impacts on travel to COVID-19 Vaccination Site at State Farm Stadium. Crews will work within approximately 3-mile stretches each night. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and use caution in work zones. Note: Additional overnight Loop 101 maintenance work is planned during future weeks in March and April between Thunderbird Road and I-10. Restriction schedules will be updated on a weekly basis.

Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) restricted with intermittent rolling closures in both directions overnight in areas between I-10 and Kyrene Road in Chandler from 7 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday (March 7) for Salt River Project overhead utility line work. All I-10 ramps to eastbound Loop 202 closed. Law enforcement officers will slow or hold traffic for up to 15 minutes each time as needed for the utility work. DETOUR: I-10 drivers can consider using Chandler Boulevard as an alternate route. I-10 traffic also can exit to eastbound Queen Creek Road (SR 347 exit) and use northbound Price Road to reach Loop 202.
