Honda has announced a recall of nearly 250,000 vehicles due to the potential failure of their bearings that could lead to the motor stalling and thus upping the chances of an accident.

Honda is recalling certain Pilot SUVs and Odyssey minivans from the 2018 and 2019 model years, along with some Ridgeline pickup trucks from 2017 and 2019. Additionally, the recall includes certain Acura TLX cars from 2015 to 2020, and some Acura MDX SUVs from 2016 to 2020.

Honda reported in documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that due to a manufacturing mistake, the connecting rod bearings in the engine can be damaged by wear and seize. This could potentially lead to the engine running improperly or even stalling while the car is in motion, leading to an increased risk of a crash, fire or any kind of injury.

The car manufacturer has reported 1,450 warranty claims connected to a certain problem, yet there have been no reports of any related injury.

Honda stated that dealers will inspect, and if necessary, repair and/or replace the engines. In addition, they indicated that owners who have already paid for repairs out of pocket will be entitled to a reimbursement.

In January 2024, Honda will notify owners regarding the recall.
