Former Suns Point Guard, Steve Nash Named Head Coach of Brooklyn Nets

NBA Hall of Famer and former Phoenix Suns star, Steve Nash has landed a new job in Brooklyn.
On Thursday morning, the Brooklyn Nets announced on Twitter that the eight-time NBA All-Star will become the 23rd head coach in the franchise’s NBA history.

Brooklyn’s General Manager Sean Marks said in a statement that the team met with a number of different candidates from diverse backgrounds and it was a difficult choice. He added, “In Steve we see a leader, communicator and mentor who will garner the respect of our players. I have had the privilege to know Steve for many years. One of the great on-court leaders in our game, I have witnessed firsthand his basketball acumen and selfless approach to prioritize team success.”

Nash played for the Suns from 1996 to 1998 and 2004 to 2012, and was a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.

“His instincts for the game, combined with an inherent ability to communicate with and unite players towards a common goal, will prepare us to compete at the highest levels of the league,” said GM Marks.
Nash heads to Brooklyn after five seasons as a player development consultant with the Golden State Warriors, where he contributed to two NBA Championship teams and made four consecutive trips to the NBA Finals.
