Fake Police Officer Arrested In Tucson For Trying To Pull Over Vehicle

Police have arrested a man after they say he tried to pull over a motorist using fake flashing lights on the Tucson’s southeast side of town.

Sixty-four-year-old Robert Handley was arrested for impersonating a police officer after a Tucson Police officer witness Handley attempt to pullover a vehicle.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Friday near South Kolb Road and East Escalante Boulevard when an officer observed a dark blue minivan using flashing blue lights to make a traffic stop.


The officer called for backup prior to intercepting the minivan.

According to police, the minivan had a makeshift strobe light taped to the vehicle to simulate emergency law enforcement lighting.

After a search of the vehicle, the van officers found inside a night vision monocular, binoculars and fake firearms in holsters.

Police are reminding citizens that it is important if you find yourself in a similar situation to always pull into a well-lit area. Turn on your hazards and drive slowly the nearest, populated area before stopping your car. If you have any concern or doubt, call 911 to verify the traffic stop is legitimate, giving a detail of the area you are in and the circumstance as you drive to a populated area.
