Doubling Of Salmonella Cases Prompts CDC To Broaden Caution For Charcuterie Meat Trays

A recall has been issued for charcuterie products due to the presence of salmonella.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced an extension of their alert regarding salmonella contamination linked to charcuterie meat snack trays that are available for purchase at Sam’s Club and Costco locations.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 47 individuals across 22 different states have been affected by food poisoning after consuming Busseto and Fratelli Beretta meat products. Out of these cases, 10 people have required hospitalization.

Previously, the CDC had issued a warning regarding one specific lot of Busseto brand charcuterie sampler trays that had been recalled. However, the agency is now advising both retailers and consumers to avoid consuming, serving, or selling any of the Busseto brand charcuterie samplers. This warning also includes the Busseto charcuterie sampler that is sold at Sam’s Club and the Antipasto Gran Beretta products from Fratelli Beretta brand that are sold at Costco.

Two packs of meat trays are available, each containing prosciutto, sweet soppressata, and either dry coppa or black pepper-coated dry salami. Additionally, Italian dry salami, dry coppa, and prosciutto are included in the packs.

Individuals with weakened immune systems, young children, and older adults are at a higher risk of experiencing serious illness due to Salmonella poisoning. Although rare, this type of bacterial infection can result in death.

According to the CDC, a Salmonella outbreak has affected 47 individuals across 22 states, 10 of whom have been hospitalized. As a precautionary measure, individuals are advised not to consume two specific products and to dispose of them immediately. Investigators are also searching for any other potentially contaminated products.

Based on data from the CDC, it has been reported that among the 47 cases of Salmonella, 11 of them were Ohio residents. The outbreak has now spread to other states including Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. According to CDC records, the first illness associated with this outbreak was documented on November 20.
