AT&T reports $350 million investment in network upgrades

AT&T has announced that it invested about $350 million in its Arizona wireless and wired networks from  2013-2015 to upgrade reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and businesses.

The improvements, including new cell sites, LTE upgrades and more network capacity, also enhanced critical services that support public safety.

“We’re committed to providing our customers fast, reliable, highly secure connectivity,” said Jerry Fuentes, AT&T president of Arizona and New Mexico. “We want them to be able to access the internet at any moment, from almost any device and from anywhere.”

Notable network enhancements in 2015 included upgrading AT&T’s network for the Super Bowl in Glendale. AT&T tripled the LTE capacity for the Distributed Antenna System or DAS at University of Phoenix Stadium, brought in 10 portable cell towers and upgraded or installed 13 new DAS at hotels, sports arenas, convention centers and other venues.

In 2016, AT&T plans to give customers the ability to access and stream DIREC-TV video services over a wired or wireless internet connection from any provider and from virtually any device. These services will not require annual contracts, satellite dishes or set-top boxes.

AT&T’s Wi-Fi network has more than 40,000 hot spots at popular restaurants, hotels, bookstores and retailers.
