ASU, UA Listed In Business Journals’ 2019 College Rankings

According to annual rankings from a sister publication of the Phoenix Business Journal, Arizona State University and University of Arizona landed among the 100 best public colleges in the country.

It marked the fifth-straight year that Buffalo Business First compiled a ranking of approximately 500 public universities and colleges. The rankings were created to examine schools that offer the most affordable path toward a bachelor’s degree across the U.S.

Having fluctuated from last year’s rankings positions, both ASU and UA made the top 100. ASU fell four spots to No. 67 overall, while UA climbed a whopping 19 spots to No. 76 on the 2019 rankings, up from No. 95 a year ago.

Northern Arizona University also ranked, slipping six spots to No. 214. Last year, it ranked No. 208. Also included in the rankings were other ASU campuses — Downtown Phoenix (No. 154), Polytechnic (No. 164) and ASU West (No. 167).

In the region, ASU ranked No. 13 among universities and colleges in the West. UA was No. 17 on the regional list. ASU Downtown Phoenix was No. 32, Polytechnic was No. 33 and ASU West landed at No. 34 in the West. NAU ranked 43rd among the West region of colleges in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

The University of Michigan is the top-rated public college in the country, followed by University of North Carolina. Those two repeated atop the list from last year.

Rankings were created after analyzing a range of data for 505 public colleges across the country, using a 22-part formula to generate the rankings.
