Arizona Couple Arrested After Leaving Child Home Alone For 2 Weeks

Deputies have arrested a Cochise County couple after they allegedly left their 11-year-old son home alone for several weeks.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office says they responded on Dec. 12 to a request of a welfare check on Dec. 12 in Elfrida, Arizona. Elfrida is approximately 27 miles north of Douglas. Deputies say found an 11-year-old boy left alone inside their own home.

The child told authorities that his mother, 34-year-old Melissa Green left the state before Thanksgiving. His father, 40-year-old Bobby Jo Green had left shortly after Thanksgiving. The boy explained to authorities that he had not been to school for two weeks and had been eating frozen food while they were away. Deputies made multiple attempts to contact both parents but were unsuccessful. Authorities placed the boy under the care of Child Protective Services.

The Cochise County Attorney’s Office has indicted both parents on three counts of child neglect. They were both taken into custody Wednesday night after the parents returned from an unknown location. The couple is being held on $100,000 bond each. Further investigation is underway.
